What is Saju (the Four Pillars)?

Saju is Korean traditional astrology: the year, month, day and hour of your birth each become two characters — eight in total — and the balance of the five energies inside them describes the temperament and life shape you were born with.

Saju, also called the Four Pillars of Destiny, turns your birth moment into four pillars of two characters each. Reading how the five energies — wood, fire, earth, metal and water — are distributed across those eight characters, and which of them are strong, missing or needed, is what a Saju reading does.

FortuneCat calculates the chart precisely from your birth date and time, then explains it in twelve parts: the overall shape, temperament, work, money, love, health, relationships, and the timing of the decade you are in. Everything is written in everyday language — no technical terms and no Chinese characters.

From the same chart you can also read your Saju against your MBTI type, or bring a dream to be read with your chart as context. The chart calculation is deterministic and always the same for the same birth data; the interpretation on top of it is generated by AI, so read it as a perspective rather than a prediction.

How a reading works

  1. Enter your date of birth and your birth time. If you don't know the time, leave it unknown.
  2. We calculate your eight characters and how the five energies — wood, fire, earth, metal, water — are distributed.
  3. We point out which energies run strong, which are missing, and what to do in the season you're in now.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get a reading if I don't know my birth time?
Yes. Without a time we drop the hour pillar and read the remaining six characters. Knowing the time simply makes the reading of temperament and timing more specific.
Should I enter a solar or lunar birth date?
Either works. A lunar date is converted to solar internally before the chart is calculated, so the result is the same.
How accurate is this?
The chart itself — the eight characters and the five energies — is calculated deterministically. The interpretation on top of it is generated by AI, so read it as a perspective rather than a prediction.
